The source of power for telecom Infrastructure in recent times in Nigeria has been through power generating sets. All BTS, BSC and MSC are powered by generators all year round. However, the cost of maintaining these gen. Sets are enormous, it has led to operators introducing alternative source of power via external electrification system.
Under the alternative approach, power sub station (transformers) are installed within the BTS perimeters and connected to the national grid for electrification. The type of power capacity lines within specific BTS determines the connection options (whether high Tension-HT or Low Tension-LT, 33 or IL Lines).
